We’re thrilled to see that Quokka has been chosen as one of eight names for Qantas’ new fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
In May, Qantas called on Australians to suggest names that reflected the true spirit of Australia. With the Dreamliners taking to the skies for the new Perth to London route, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to shine a light on Western Australia’s native marsupials – the happiest animal in the world – and reinforce the unique experiences on offer in Perth.
Along with Tourism WA and their marketing and PR teams, we jumped into action with key trade partners in WA to encourage tourism operators throughout the state to get behind the campaign to vote. This was further supported by PR and social activity to rally the general public and drive votes for Quokka.
Out of 60,000 suggestions, and with 45,000 votes cast overall, it was a fantastic result, and we look forward to seeing the Qantas Quokka fly from October this year on the new Perth to London route.
It also further cements the Quokka as an Australia icon, alongside the Kangaroo and Koala. And they even have their own island in Rottnest!
