‘Should’ve Gone to Specsavers’ is one of the most enduring advertising platforms in recent memory. It sees eyesight-addled people in humourous and downright bizarre scenarios. So, charged with bringing an Australian perspective to this global campaign, naturally we began at the beach.
In our first spot, a volleyballer mistakes a seagull for a ball. The next commercial, features a lifeguard who mixes-up a swimmer with a seal. Hilarity ensues. Suffice to say, these spots didn’t just capture the hearts – and eyeballs – of Aussies, they ran in markets internationally, in places as far flung as Norway. Subsequent ads have featured a cricketer mixing up his box with an avocado. Do we continue to add the Australian flavour? See for yourself.
